History

Playford Athletics Centre, formerly known as Elizabeth Little Athletics Centre, has been around for 50 years and is now welcoming senior athletes, as well as those who are 3-16 years old.

In July 1971, Elizabeth Senior Athletics Club called for expressions of interest from the local community to introduce Little Athletics in South Australia.

Representing Elizabeth Senior Athletics Club at this first meeting was:

Mr Phil Binns

Mr Stan Malbot

Mr Jess Jarmer

In October 1971, Elizabeth Little Athletics Club held its first meeting at Elizabeth Vale Primary School in South Australia. Elizabeth Little Athletics was the very first Little Athletics centre in the whole of South Australia.

The members of the first committee elected were:

President: Mr Neil Malycha

Treasurer: Mr Lyell Green

Secretary: Mr Ken Ornsby

The club decided to adopt the red, white and blue colours of the Central Districts Football Club, which still appear on the uniform today.

In 1972 Elizabeth Little Athletics Club moved from Elizabeth Vale Primary School to its current location, Duncan Anderson Reserve, Trimmer Road, Elizabeth Vale.

The Evolution of Playford Athletics

The renaming of Elizabeth Little Athletics Centre was a decision made by the committee of 2015/2016. The change was made so that the club can keep up with the growth of the new housing and shopping centres appearing across Playford. With the name change came a new uniform and a new logo, revitalising the club and making everything fresh.

Playford Athletics Centre endeavours to be the best they can and will always give 100% to their members. The motto “Family, Fun and Fitness” always rings true, and as a club, we welcome any who wish to be involved.
